No matter how much you love your work, you still need something to do that's pure goof-off time. Mine is reading fiction, and my favorite genre is the murder mystery.
Psychologists make it into many forms of fiction, but appear most regularly in crime fiction, with Stephen White and Jonathan Kellerman being two of the most prolific writers using psychologist sleuths. Their protagonists are pretty good guys, but there are many other portrayals of psychologists/psychiatrists--most notably by Hollywood--that portray us in a less-than-flattering light. This would be ok, if that were as far as it went, since our profession has its fair share of turkeys, but unfortunately sometimes it's not clear in the portrayals that the therapist in question is, indeed, being a turkey. This leads to some confusion on the part of the general public as to what is and is not an appropriate role for a therapist. So I will review some of these movies and novels here as well.
This is another section which, by definition, will be under continuous construction, so check back occasionally to see what's been added!
